A 47-year-old man was hospitalized early on Sunday morning after a machete attack in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood.
According to police, officers were called to the 300 block of Avenue M South just before 1:30 a.m. after getting a report of an injured person.

When they arrived, police said the officers found the man “suffering from a wound caused by a machete.”
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, though police noted that his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Man carrying scalpel, box cutter, dumbbell bar facing weapons charges
A 40-year-old man is facing charges after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a wide assortment of weapons over the weekend.
According to police, officers got a call about a suspicious man who was “acting erratically” in the 800 block of Avenue P North, in the city’s Mt. Royal neighbourhood, at around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.
“Upon arrival, officers located a man who was in possession of open alcohol,” the police force said in a statement.
“He was taken into custody and found to also have a machete, box cutter, scalpel, and a metal dumbbell bar concealed in his pants.”
The 40-year-old man is now facing two charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and two charges of carrying a concealed weapon.
Man facing charges after cops spot drug deal downtown
A 23-year-old man is facing charges after police spotted a drug deal in downtown Saskatoon on Sunday morning.
According to police, officers spotted a man making a “drug transaction” in the area of 23rd Street East and Third Avenue North.
“He initially resisted arrest and other officers attended to assist in taking the man into custody,” the police force said.
“He was found in possession of 4.13 grams of methamphetamine, bear spray, and a knife.”
The 23-year-old is now facing drug and weapons charges.
Man facing weapons-related charges downtown
A 31-year-old man was arrested for possessing a hatchet and butterfly knife and outstanding warrants.
Saskatoon police responded to a call at about 9 p.m. on Sept. 6 of a man armed with a hatchet.
The man was “looking into the yards of residences in the 600 block of 20th Street West,” the police statement read.
The man is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a concealed prohibited weapon.
Bear spray used in liquor store robbery
An 18-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly robbing a liquor store last night.
Police responded to a call at about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday at a liquor store located in the 100 block of Gibson Bend, where the man attempted to steal “several bottles of alcohol.”
The man allegedly used bear spray on staff when confronted before fleeing on foot.
He’s been charged with robbery, concealing his identity, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of court-imposed conditions.
Stolen vehicle evades police
Two people are facing charges after failing to stop for police in an allegedly stolen vehicle.
A canine officer noticed a vehicle known to be stolen in the area of 45th Street and Avenue C North on Sept. 5 at around 8:45 p.m.
“The driver refused to stop for police, but with assistance from the SPS Air Support Unit, stop sticks were successfully deployed on Airport Drive,” police said in a statement.
The 21-year-old female driver was charged with evading police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breaching court-imposed conditions.
A male passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants.
