An unruly 44-year-old Saskatoon man is facing assault charges after allegedly assaulting an officer who was trying to arrest him on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said officers were called to an establishment on 21st Street East at around 4 p.m. after getting a report that a man was refusing to leave and threatening staff members. Police said the man refused to comply with the officer’s commands, and punched the officer in the head.

The man then “forcefully removed the officer’s bike helmet and began striking him with it,” the police force said.
The officer fought back, police said, first with a baton and pepper spray, and later with a conducted energy weapon – commonly referred to as a Taser – when the man allegedly “raised a large metal stool in an attempt to strike the officer with it.”
The man was taken into custody after he was hit with the energy weapon, and police said the officer was not injured during the fight.
“As a result, the 44-year-old Saskatoon man was charged with assault on a police officer engaged in lawful duties, assault on a police officer with intent to resist, and assault with a weapon,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
