An Ontario man is facing over a dozen charges after allegedly stealing multiple vehicles and evading police in the Maidstone area at the end of August.
On Aug. 26, Maidstone RCMP got a call about a car driving “erratically” on Highway 16, west of Maidstone.
RCMP traffic officers found the car and initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle “fled from police, entering and exiting the ditch at highway speeds.”

Shortly after, officers found the car disabled on a grid road. The male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.
When police found him, he resisted arrest, but officers were eventually able to safely bring the man into custody.
Following an investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was reported stolen in Ontario. The man was charged, appeared in court and was released pending his next court appearance.
The next day
Less than 24 hours later, RCMP saw a man trying to break into a vehicle in Maidstone; it was the same man from the previous day.
When approached by officers, the man fled on foot.
Shortly after, Maidstone RCMP found the man driving an SUV.
“Investigation determined the male entered a nearby residence, stole the keys to the occupant’s SUV, and left the residence in the stolen vehicle,” RCMP said in a release.
Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but it fled the scene heading west on Highway 16.
The man drove over a tire deflation device in the stolen SUV, partially deflating its tires. The vehicle continued to drive, entering the town of Marshall, which is about 40 kilometres west of Maidstone.
The SUV’s tires became disabled and while the vehicle was still moving, the man exited the SUV and fled on foot.
The SUV hit a nearby parked vehicle; no one was inside at the time.
Officers found the man in yet another stolen vehicle, this time a truck, in a parking lot in Marshall.
They tried to block the parking lot exit with police vehicles and approached the stolen truck on foot.
“The truck reversed, striking the parked police vehicle repeatedly. The male struck a second police vehicle, fled from the parking lot, and exited town,” RCMP said.
None of the officers were hurt, but one of the police vehicles was disabled and another was damaged.
The man drove the alleged stolen truck down a dead-end road and into a field where it became stuck.
He exited the truck on foot into a wooded area where police followed. According to RCMP, he resisted arrest and a taser was used on him. He was then arrested without further incident.
15 charges laid
Following an investigation into the two-day ordeal, a 25-year-old man from Brampton, Ont., received 15 charges.
Some of the charges include three counts of obstructing a peace officer, two counts of flight from a peace officer, two counts of theft of a vehicle, dangerous operations of a vehicle, breaking and entering and failure to stop after a collision.
According to RCMP, the man has been remanded and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Sept. 4.
The RCMP Combined Traffic Service Saskatchewan, Lloydminster RCMP and Wilton Police Service assisted in the investigation.
