“The fireworks will be launched from Rotary Park and the waterway just out there, so there will be no programming to be enjoyed in Rotary Park – all that programming is moved over to the other side of the river,” Ali said.
The fireworks shows typically begin at around 9:30 p.m., Ali said, and each night will feature a unique fireworks show choreographed to music.
“We’re able to do some fairly unique things because of where we’re firing from,” Ali said.
Along with the fireworks, the festival offers plenty to see and do, including food trucks, live music and activities at the Family Fun Zones.
“Our theme this year is ‘pride of people and place.’ We have so much to celebrate about who we are in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan and, of course, Canada. We will highlight the cultural mosaic that this province and this city has become and continues to strengthen,” Ali said.
“We’ll have some cultural performances on the amphitheatre stage throughout the evening on Friday and throughout the day on Saturday. We’ll have live bands – different bands Friday and different bands Saturday.”
Road, bridge closures
A number of roads and bridges will be closed to accommodate the festival.
Spadina Crescent will be closed between Second Avenue and Third Avenue from 7 p.m. on Thursday through 10 a.m. on Sunday to allow for staging.
Between 9 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Sunday, the Traffic Bridge will be closed between 11th and 19th streets, Second Avenue will be closed between Saunders Place and Spadina, and Third Avenue will be closed between 19th Street and the Traffic Bridge.
“Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the event area,” the City of Saskatoon said in a statement.
“Saskatoon Transit will temporarily adjust detour routes that currently run on Victoria Avenue and the Traffic Bridge during this event.”
