“The male driver did not stop for police and pulled into a residential driveway where he also failed to comply with the direction of RCMP officers,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Wadena RCMP arrested the male driver, and during a search of his person, officers located illicit drugs including 97 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of crack cocaine and 7 grams of methamphetamine. Officers searched the vehicle and further located a set of brass knuckles and a semi-automatic handgun.”
The 37-year-old driver, a resident of Wadena, was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm without a licence, unsafe storage of a firearm, and three counts of resisting arrest or obstructing a peace officer.
He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in court in Wadena on September 4, the RCMP said.
Two days later, on August 8, officers got multiple reports of an impaired driver near the beach on the Fishing Lake First Nation.
The RCMP said officers located the vehicle in Wadena a short time later.
“The driver failed to comply with officers’ instructions and was arrested,” the police force said in a statement.
“Officers located two firearms, one of which was loaded, and several hundred rounds of ammunition during a search of the vehicle.”
The 39-year-old driver, a resident of the Fishing Lake First Nation, is facing a lengthy list of gun-related charges, along with a charge of resisting arrest and a charge of having a blood-alcohol level over 80mg/100ml within two hours after driving.
He was also remanded to custody, and is set to appear in court next Thursday.
