One of the victims, a 33-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene despite first aid efforts by both police and paramedics. The other victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to hospital by STARS in serious condition, but has since been released.
The Mounties described the shooting as a targeted attack, and said there was no danger or threat to the general public.
In an update, police said 52-year-old Frank La Forge, who is from Keeseekoowenin, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
La Forge was described as five-foot-eight in height, weighing roughly 150 pounds, with brown eyes and a bald head. The RCMP said officers believe he is in the Yellowhead area of Manitoba, but noted that he also has connections in Saskatchewan, specifically in the Kamsack and Yorkton areas.
“The suspect should not be approached, and if seen people are asked to call 9-1-1,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Yellowhead RCMP and Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services continue to investigate to determine other suspects.”
