A Saskatchewan RCMP spokesperson said the police force is working to improve communications after announcing the arrest of an escaped inmate three months after it happened.
Kobe Kiseyinewakup, 26, escaped from the Besnard Lake Correctional Centre in northern Saskatchewan on the evening of April 14. The RCMP issued a statement that day, asking the public to report sightings or information on Kiseyinewakup’s whereabouts.

The next update from the Mounties came on May 9, when police said Kiseyinewakup had successfully eluded officers twice – once on April 26 and a second time on May 7 – by fleeing in a vehicle.
“During these incidents, officers have engaged their emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled,” the RCMP said.
Police said he was believed to be in the Pierceland or Loon Lake area, and described a Dodge Charger they believed Kiseyinewakup may have been using.
Kiseyinewakup was charged with escaping lawful custody, and the RCMP said he was facing additional charges of fleeing from a peace officer and operating a conveyance while prohibited in connection with the two cases where he eluded the pursuing officers.
In an update issued on Tuesday, August 5, the RCMP announced that Kiseyinewakup was arrested on May 9, the same day the previous update was issued to media.
When asked why it took the Saskatchewan RCMP a total of 88 days to report on Kiseyinewakup’s arrest, a spokesperson said the update was issued as soon as communications staff were alerted.
“We can confirm he was arrested on May 9, and that we issued this update as soon as we were made aware of the update,” the spokesperson said in response to emailed questions from 650 CKOM.
“We are working with our detachments to ensure updates are provided to the public in a timely manner.”
