Police have arrested and charged a 56-year-old man with second-degree murder in relation to Ballantyne’s death. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Aug. 5.
Around 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, police said officers were called to the 500 block of 39th Street West for a report of a suspicious person. Further information stated someone had potentially located a dead person.
Officers quickly arrived on scene and located Ballantyne.
Members of the Prince Albert Police Service Forensic Identification Section (FIS), Prince Albert RCMP FIS and Saskatchewan Coroners Service were also called and attended the scene. Next of kin have been notified.
The death was the second homicide this week after 39-year-old Wayne Keller was found dead at Prince Albert’s rail yards on July 29. No arrests have been made in that case.
