Gunshots were fired by police officers responding to an incident involving a stolen vehicle in Saskatoon on Wednesday morning.
According to police, officers got a report of a stolen vehicle in the area of Wiggins Avenue South and Cascade Street shortly before 8 a.m. Police said the officers located the stolen vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.

After “several attempts” to disable the vehicle, police said the pursuit ultimately came to an end on Circle Drive near Valley Road, and a male suspect was taken into custody.
“Multiple civilian and police vehicles were damaged as a result,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“The extent of injuries is unknown at this point.”
The incident prompted a massive police response, with numerous police vehicles and an armoured vehicle seen racing to the scene with their lights and sirens activated. A large truck could be seen lying on its side next to Circle Drive, surrounded by police vehicles.

Police confirmed to 650 CKOM that the suspect taken into custody was not Michael Landry, a 39-year-old inmate who allegedly escaped from custody near the city on Tuesday, stealing a van in the process.
Traffic restrictions are in place in the area, police said, and motorists were advised to follow the directions of officers at the scene.
Because shots were fired by officers, the Saskatoon Police Service said it will notify the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, a watchdog organization that conducts investigations into police conduct.
Employees inside the TR Petroleum building were overlooking all of the action on Circle Drive and Valley Road. Several employees who were just starting their shifts said they saw more than 20 police vehicles and the SWAT team force a vehicle off the road and into the ditch.
“We were sitting at work and we heard sirens and I looked out and saw the big white vehicle nudge the van and it just flipped. It was insane,” said Megan Benson.
Ali McKee said once the vehicle was in the ditch, police moved in to arrest the suspect.
“They rushed and had the dogs out, broke the windshield and pulled him out and attended to him,” McKee said.
Benson and McKee said the whole situation lasted about 20 minutes.
“They had him laying on the ground, and we walked out so I could hear what he was saying and he was complaining about being in pain,” McKee said.
Benson said the situation looked like something out of a video game, and said was exciting to see.
