Woman facing charges after police chase Friday night
A 34-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, evading police and possession of a dangerous weapon after allegedly leading police officers on a high-speed chase on Friday night.
Officers got a call about an erratic driver at around 10 p.m., police said.
“The suspect vehicle was located at the intersection of Idylwyld Drive North and 33rd Street West,” police said in a statement. “When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.”
Officers in a police aircraft monitored the vehicle while guiding officers on the ground, police said. A tire-deflation device was deployed, and the vehicle ultimately came to a stop in the parking lot of a shopping centre on Preston Avenue North.
Police said two women took off on foot, and one of them was quickly taken into custody. Two other people in the vehicle were also arrested, including a 25-year-old man who police said was wanted on outstanding warrants.
“The fleeing driver was taken into custody with the assistance of a Police Service Dog,” the police service added.
“She was provided medical treatment on-scene, prior to being transported to hospital. She was believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant.”
An initiation gun was also found in the vehicle, the police force said.
