Detours will be in place to help people navigate the closures and the roads will re-open as the race progresses.
All of the roads should be re-opened by 1:30 p.m. barring any unforseen circumstances, or weather related events.
Transit routes may also be affected during the detours.
This will be the 46th annual marathon, and Amy Wall, volunteer captain, says it actually consists of several different events.
“The provincial championships for the marathon, half marathon and 5 and 10k, and then we have lots of fun activities also happening with our kids race, so there’s lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved.”
Wall says it’s also a fun and hectic weekend and even a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
“We have more runner this year than we’ve ever had before in the marathon, so with that comes the increased need for volunteers and planning for logistics of course,” she added.
There are about 450 volunteers scheduled to help out this year, with about 6,000 runners taking part.
