Just days after introducing a $250 transportation fee for high school students in Martensville and Warman, the Prairie Spirit School Division reversed its decision and revoked the fee.
The annual fee was to be implemented for the upcoming school year, and the school division cited a lack of funding behind the change.

In a letter to parents on Friday, the school division said it received clarification from the Ministry of Education that school divisions are not permitted to charge student transportation fees as per The Education Act.
“Prairie Spirit does not receive funding for high school transportation in the cities of Warman and Martensville,” the letter read.
“The Division will be exploring other options for adjustments to high school urban transportation in the future, as this is an unfunded cost.”
Both high school and elementary school students within the division will have access to transportation without a fee this coming fall.
High school students in the division who live more than 1.5 km from their school are eligible for transportation, while elementary school students qualify if they live more than one kilometre away.
