A 29-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly pulling out a replica handgun while refusing to pay for a taxi ride in Saskatoon.
According to police, officers were called to the 3500 block of Eighth Street East at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday after getting a report that a man who had been dropped off by a taxi refused to pay the fare. When he was confronted, police said he allegedly pulled a handgun out of his bag.

Police said the man fled the area, but was seen entering a yard on Leland Terrace. The man went into the home, police said, where he was soon arrested without further incident.
“Upon further investigation, a replica C02 handgun was recovered,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
The 29-year-old man is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and fraudulently obtaining transportation.
Stabbing
A hotel in the 700 block of Idyldyld North had officers responding to a report of a stabbing around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. A 53-year-old man was found to have non-life-threatening injuries that were serious. Two suspects were arrested in another suite in the same hotel. The victim was transported to a hospital.
A 43-year-old man was brought to the SPS Detention and was charged with Aggravated Assault, while a 40-year-old woman was released without charges.
Injured pedestrian hit and run
Police are requesting public assistance following a hit and run on Sunday at around 7:00 p.m.
SPS found a 49-year-old man hit by a vehicle on the 1900 block of 8th Street East. The vehicle fled the scene.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. SPS collision analysts were on scene and are continuing to investigate.
Drug trafficking
Three people are facing charges related to drug trafficking after a stolen vehicle was stopped on Saturday night.
This happened at around 11:00 p.m. in the 400 block of Avenue C North. When a traffic stop was initiated, one passenger ran from the scene while the driver and another passenger were arrested.
The passenger who ran was tracked by the SPS Air Support Unit and located.
A search of the vehicle recovered the following:
- $23,135 cash
- Methamphetamine: 129.79 grams
- Numerous Codeine, Morphine, Hydromorphone pills or tablets
- Paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking (scale, cellphones)
A 73-year-old man, a 67-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man are all facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000.
