Saskatoon has seen its second homicide of the May long weekend and its fourth of 2025, after a stabbing in Riversdale on Saturday night.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said in a news release on May 19 that officers were called to Avenue B South and Spadina Crescent around 11 p.m. on May 18 after receiving a report a report of a person suffering from a stab wound.

Police said they found a 43-year-old man who was taken to hospital, where he later died.
No further information was provided by police.
The killing follows a shooting at a motel on May 17, where SPS charged a 27-year-old man with first degree murder and are still looking for a second “armed and dangerous” suspect
SPS said in a news release late Saturday night that officers were called to the motel in the 2000 block of Avenue B North around 5 a.m. after receiving a report of a person with a gunshot wound.
Police said they found an injured 20-year-old man, who was taken to hospital and later died.
SPS said on Saturday they were looking for 26-year-old Lawrence Opikowew in connection with the shooting. They described Opikowew as Indigenous, 6-foot-4 and 190 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes. No photo was supplied.
SPS provided no updates on that investigation on Monday.

Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2025 occurred on Jan. 20 when a 23-year-old man was found by police suffering from multiple stab wounds at a business in the 3900 block of Millar Avenue.
SPS arrested a 53-year-old man near 2nd Avenue South and Spadina Crescent East and charged him with first degree murder.
The city’s second homicide was on April 20, when officers were called to an apartment building in the city’s Holiday Park neighbourhood, where a man was found dead just after noon on Easter Sunday. No arrests have been made.
Saskatoon saw 15 homicides in 2024.
