A steel production company has been fined a total of $575,000 after pleading guilty to a violation of Saskatchewan’s occupational health and safety violations last month.
Evraz Inc. NA pleaded guilty to the violation in a Regina courtroom on April 29 after failing to provide an effective safeguard to prevent a worker from contacting a dangerous moving part of a machine, leading to a serious injury.

The court imposed a $410,714.29 fine, along with a surcharge of $164,285.71, and one additional charge was withdrawn.
According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, the charges stem from an incident that happened in Regina on December 4, 2022 “when a worker suffered serious injuries while inspecting the underside of sheet metal as it was being mechanically moved through the metal slitting machine.”
