“While speaking with the officer, the adult male produced two knives from his pocket, handed them to the officer and attempted to flee,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The man allegedly began assaulting and threatening the officer, who was attempting to arrest him. That’s when a second man got involved as well.
“As the adult male was resisting, a second adult male approached and attempted to take items belonging to the first adult male,” the RCMP said.
Both men were arrested after more officers arrived at the scene.
According to the RCMP, the cyclist was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation, and a search of his person turned up roughly 19 grams of methamphetamine, an additional knife and “other drug trafficking paraphernalia.”
The 28-year-old cyclist, a resident of North Battleford, is now facing charges of assaulting a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. He appeared in court last Wednesday, the RCMP said.
The other man, a 43-year-old who’s also from North Battleford, is facing two charges of resisting or obstructing a peace officer. He was scheduled to make a court appearance on June 2.
