Last Friday, Big River RCMP were notified that a serious assault had happened at a home in Big River.
The RCMP said in a news release that “two adult male suspects had entered the residence and assaulted a male occupant with a weapon.”
The two suspects were not located on the scene, but various weapons were seized. Police said the victim had non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP charged a 45-year-old man of Lashburn with the following after his arrest on April 17 in Lloydminster:
- one count, break and enter and commit indictable offence, Section 358(1)(b), Criminal Code;
- one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code; and
- one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code

On August 1, police announced that the second suspect in the case, 51-year-old Cole Hegland, had also been arrested.
The RCMP said officers caught up with him at a home in the RM of Big River.
“Officers also located and seized a firearm inside the residence,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Police said Hegland is now facing additional charges of unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of an unauthorized firearm.
