Western Canadian Crop Production Show opens Tuesday in Saskatoon

The Western Canadian Crop Production Show is set to get underway in Saskatoon on Tuesday.

The show, which runs until Thursday at Prairieland Park, will give farmers and industry workers the opportunity to network, learn, and check out the latest trends in agriculture.

Leigh Ann Hurlburt, Prairieland Park’s agriculture manager, said she’s expecting a very busy week at the show.

“We have about 340 exhibitors with more than 1,020 exhibit spaces here at Prairieland,” Hurlburt said.

“Every square inch is taken.”

Hurlburt estimated that between 18,000 and 20,000 people will pass through the show’s doors over the course of the next three days.

She said this year’s show will focus specifically on grains, crops, storage, seeds and chemicals.

New this year is the introduction of a farm information theatre, which will allow attendees to gain a wealth of knowledge and information.

“We’re very excited to have four sessions per day in the theatre starting at 10:30 a.m. On our website, every session is listed and a description of those sessions,” Hurlburt said.

“Some of our highlights for that is on Tuesday. We’re really excited to be a part of the introduction of the Agriculture Hall of Fame inductees. It’s a great group of people, and the people that they’re honouring. We’re very happy to be a part of that as well. We’re really excited on Tuesday to have our innovation award finalist presentations, so we have three award finalists and they will be presenting in the information theater.”

People will come from across Saskatchewan to attend the show, but many also travel from around the world to take in all the excitement. Hurlburt said the show is very much an international event.

“We do see different groups are bringing international guests,” she said.

“We’ve had so many inquiries from across the world, so we hope to see them all at the show.”

The event opens to the public every day at 9 a.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the show will be open until 5 p.m. and on Thursday the doors will close at 4 p.m.

Parking is free, but it will cost $22 to get into the building. Two-day passes can be purchased for $40.

Because of the large crowds expected, Prairieland Park will also have shuttles helping people get to and from the gates.
