“Witnesses reported a white Ford F150 truck had collided with other vehicles and hit a pedestrian before leaving the scene,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
The officers arriving in the area quickly spotted the truck, which police said was being driven in the wrong lanes of traffic on Eighth Street.
“As it approached a patrol vehicle head-on, the driver of the suspect truck jumped a curb and collided with a fire hydrant,” the police service explained.
Police said the driver jumped out and approached the officers, saying he was “suffering the effects of bear spray.” He was treated at the scene, police said.
“Further investigation found that the truck had struck a female who suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the police service noted. “The driver of the truck had also collided with two vehicles.”
The 20-year-old man is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, impaired driving, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
