Hundreds of kids gathered Thursday at John Lake Park to beat the heat and check out a free gigantic slip ‘n slide hosted by the Saskatoon Fire Department.
The event was gifted to the community to help families have fun during the heat wave.
“We’re trying to revive some of the community programming that we’ve been doing over the years that just got lost,” said Rielly Knock, director of community relationships for the Saskatoon Fire Department.
“We knew there was going to be a heat wave coming and we’ve got big hoses and a lot of water and we figured there’s no better way to help keep the community cool.”
Tons of kids were screaming, running and laughing at the park, and some adults even braved the 30 m slides.
The social media posts the fire department made about the event got over 1,000 shares.
When asked before the event if any of the firefighters were going to participate, Knock had a chuckle.
“We had some of our summer cadets do a test run, maybe depending on how hot it gets today we will put some firefighters down the slide.”
