Saskatchewan fell victim to a heat wave this past week where daytime highs consistently reached 30 degrees or higher.
But as the sun beamed down on the prairies the sound of jazz music could be heard in Victoria Park in Saskatoon.
The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival pressed on despite the blistering heat as they found different ways to cool off those in attendance.
“We put up misting tents, we make sure that water is readily available, we allow patrons to bring outside food and non alcoholic beverages,” said Shannon Jasdol, executive director of the festival.
While misting tents were a popular destination some people came up with other alternatives while trying to stay cool.
“A lot of people are holding beer cans on their necks,” said Jasdol. “They’ll definitely ask our beer tent for a little bit of ice.”
There also was a large St. John’s Ambulance crew set up on the festival grounds ready to help when needed.
Jasdol says the festival has been a success.
“It’s been fantastic, people are really enjoying (and) we’ve had a lot of positive feedback,” said Jasdol.
The jazz festival isn’t the only thing keeping people busy this weekend as it is also free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan.
Families in Saskatoon took advantage of the cooler weather Saturday for a fun family outing.
Fraiba Jalal and her family were at the South Saskatchewan River trying their luck and were happy to catch some.
“We just came, grabbed some crayfish (and) let them back in the water,” said Jalal. “Just to entertain the kids. My husband and the kids fish, and they love it.”
