Rock 102’s annual Bikes for Kids collection was held on Saturday in Saskatoon, and four trailers were filled with hundreds of donated bicycles for children.
The annual event collects used, donated bikes, which are then distributed through Rides by Marv’s to kids in Saskatoon who need them most.
Ryan Sullivan, one of the station’s on-air hosts, said it’s an event that really brings the community of Saskatoon together.
“Rock 102 has been amazing at having these types of different charitable events,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan said the community support has been tremendous, and people were showing up with donations well before the day got started.
“When we officially opened at 10 a.m. we already had about 50 bikes,” Sullivan explained.
Since it began in 2007, the annual event has brought in more than 2,500 bikes.
Kelly Schroeder, who dropped off a bike at the Preston Crossing Canadian Tire location, said he wanted to make sure another kid could enjoy his daughter’s old bike, “rather than this going to the dump, or just laying around not getting used.”
“It’s a good cause,” added Schroeder.
Rock 102 is the sister station to 650 CKOM.
