A Saskatoon man was arrested on Monday after allegedly threatening to harm himself and police officers while in possession of a replica grenade and an imitation gun.
Police said officers were called to a home on O’Neil Crescent at around 8:40 a.m. for a report of a man threatening to hurt himself, and officers were told he had a gun.
“Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the man; however, he refused to exit and began threatening the lives of police from inside the residence,” police said in a statement.

After negotiating for several hours, police said the man came outside where he was arrested under the Mental Health Services Act. He as charged with two counts of uttering threats.
When officers went inside the home to see if others were present, they found what they initially believed to be a genuine hand grenade. The police force’s explosive disposal team was called in and confirmed that it was a replica, and wasn’t operable.
A subsequent search of the home turned up the imitation gun.
Police noted that traffic in the area was restricted for some time on Monday, and thanked the public for co-operating with the road closures.
