There could be another riverbank nature area for the public to soon enjoy, if city councillors vote to accept a land donation.
According to a report in the May 29 city council agenda, P.R. Developments has approached the city with a land donation of 78.22 acres made up of three parcels, located north of the Saskatoon Regional Psychiatric facility, near Central Avenue.
The report indicates the company has owned the land since the 1980s. In the future, the land could be dedicated as municipal or environmental reserve.
P.R. Developments is requesting the city keep two of the parcels – making up about 46 acres – open to the public for walking, biking and river-related activities, and that part of the area be named the “Ellen Remai Natural Area”.
A third adjacent parcel of land making up about 32 acres could see future improvements like a parking lot or other structures.
Administration is recommending council approve the land donation in “as is” condition, as it aligns with the city’s official community plan.
P.R. Developments would also receive a tax receipt for $515,000.
If approved, the transfer would occur by September 1, 2024.
