A 23-year-old man found himself in handcuffs on Sunday after allegedly menacing people in Saskatoon’s Riversdale neighbourhood with a machete.
According to police, officers were called to the intersection of Avenue K and 21st Street West at around 11 a.m. after getting reports of a man armed with a machete in the area. According to police, the man was reportedly brandishing the large knife while “approaching people for money.”

Officers caught up with the man nearby on Avenue J South, but he took off on foot, running into a home on 20th Street West.
“When the male refused to follow police commands a canine team successfully brought him into custody,” police said in a statement.
“A search of the man’s backpack resulted in officers locating both the machete and a crossbow stock.”
Police said the man is now charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
No injuries were reported.
