United Way Saskatoon and Area is celebrating another successful fundraising effort.
The organization announced it raised $3.3 million in its annual community fundraising campaign.
The money is earmarked to help 42 initiatives, with 35 community-based organizations receiving support to support people in the area.
“We put out the call and our donors and volunteers answered it,” Sheri Benson, the CEO of United Way Saskatoon and Area, said in a release. “This campaign’s success amidst significant socio-economic challenges speaks volumes about the compassion and resilience of our community.
“Our heartfelt thanks goes out to each volunteer and donor who stepped up so that everyone in our community can realize their full potential.”
According to the organization, the funds raised will be used to help groups that are trying to help people dealing with the high cost of living, homelessness and opioid and HIV epidemics.
One of those organizations is Chokecherry Studios in Saskatoon, a non-profit that provides art and culture programs and support services for those in the city.
Priscila Cabildo with Chokecherry said in the past year, the organization has seen an increase of almost 300 per cent of youth participants, adding it can be difficult to keep up with the high demand for services.
Funding from United Way will help with art supplies, as well as keep youth programs and daily operations running smoothly.
“We are incredibly grateful,” she said.
