As temperatures rise this week, patios around Saskatoon are slowly starting to open, letting residents savour the warm spring weather and a cold beer.
On Wednesday, the Yard & Flagon Pub on Broadway opened half of its rooftop patio during the lunch rush, and customers started to pile in just 10 minutes after opening.
Arno Oldach, one of the pub’s owners, said he opened the patio this early in the season at the request of his customers. He said patrons have been asking to have a pint in the sun all week, even with snow still on the ground.
Oldach said it’s a lot of work clearing snow and scraping ice off the benches for the patio season, but it’s worth it in the end for the business, customers and his staff.
“It feels awesome,” he said.
“It’s been a great winter, but we always look forward to having the nice warm weather and people up on the patio having fun.”
