Car enthusiasts in Saskatoon can take a look at some of the city’s sweetest rides at the 62nd annual Draggins Rod and Custom Car Show this weekend.
Shane Arthurs with the car club said when the event first started, there weren’t more than 40 cars showcased. That number has grown to 240 cars this year, the highest number to date.
This year’s feature car is from one of the club’s members, a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback with a rare 427-cubic-inch motor. The work was done by Creative Concepts & Restorations in Warman.
An orange and white 1955 Chevrolet Nomad wagon, three Daytona wing cars, and a 1940 Ford with a Coyote motor and 10-speed transmission are other notable models this year, Arthurs said.
“I’ve never seen so much iron in town,” he said, adding he’s seeing more people getting into the hobby of restoring classic cars.
“Some of this stuff is worth huge bucks, and it costs a lot of money to do it,” he added, noting some of the cars have taken an entire year of work for the show.
“There’s a lot of homegrown talent in Saskatchewan here, and a lot of it’s going to be at our show.”
The Draggins car show runs Friday and Saturday at Prairieland Park.
