Saskatchewan is investing in skilled trades training.
On Tuesday, the provincial government announced $1 million in additional funding for the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Commission, which will translate into 150 more seats for apprentices training to be plumbers, electricians and more.
Jeremy Harrison, Saskatchewan’s minister of immigration and career training, said the growing province will need more tradespeople in coming years.

“As Saskatchewan’s economy continues to grow, we’re seeing a significant number of capital projects underway or planned throughout the next several years, all of which will create more demand for skilled tradespeople in the province,” Harrison said in a statement.
Since 2007, funding for apprenticeship training has increased by 71 per cent, the government noted, with the commission receiving $22.4 million in 2023-24.
Commission CEO Jeff Ritter said the added funding will help meet the growing demand for training in skilled trades.
“We are thrilled the Government of Saskatchewan is providing this additional investment in support of our province’s apprenticeship and trade certification system,” Ritter said in a statement.
