Five teenagers are facing a variety of charges after Saskatoon police broke up what they called “a disturbance” at a community gathering in the Mount Royal neighbourhood.
In a media release, police said officers were called Thursday at around 10:30 p.m. to a school in the 2200 block of Rusholme Road where the gathering was taking place.
Police didn’t identify the school, but the address corresponds to Mount Royal Collegiate.
According to the release, police were told a youth who had been involved in some kind of incident was seen carrying a gun.
“Upon arrival, officers quickly identified four youth males and a youth female as being involved in the disturbance and isolated them away from the community gathering to conduct a weapons investigation,” the release said. “Upon search of their persons, officers located an imitation firearm, bear spray, and methamphetamine.”
Four boys — two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old — and a 14-year-old girl now are facing charges related to weapons, obstruction, drug possession and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
