A lead-footed driver is going to have to find another mode of transportation for the next week.
According to the RCMP, a driver going almost twice the speed limit on a highway in the Humboldt area was fined $1,246 and had their vehicle impounded for a week.
The driver was going 190 kilometres per hour in a 100 zone, police said in a social media post.
The RCMP said drivers should be aware that the penalties are going to become even more harsh in the coming months.
On May 1, the penalty for going 50 kilometres per hour or more over the posted speed limit will include a 30-day vehicle impoundment and an immediate seven-day licence suspension.
“In addition to the fines, demerits and inconvenience of losing a licence and use of a vehicle, the registered owner of the impounded vehicle is responsible for the towing and storage fees,” SGI explained in a statement. “At the end of the suspension term, the customer will have to visit a motor licence issuer to have their driver’s licence reprinted for a fee.”
Penalties for stunting and street racing are also going to get more harsh on May 1.
“Please slow down and obey the speed limits – they’re in place for a reason,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“Excessive speeds can be dangerous for you, your fellow drivers and gives everyone less time to react to potential poor road conditions.”
