Dates have been set for a public inquest into the death of a man who died after what was termed “an incident” at Regina’s General Hospital in 2021.
The inquest into the death of George Meldrum is to be held March 18-22 at the Royal Hotel in Regina.
According to the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, the 46-year-old man was at the Sleep Clinic at the hospital on the morning of Sept. 21, 2021.

“The Sleep Clinic transferred him to the RGH Emergency Department as they had concerns with his breathing,” the ministry said in a release. “That afternoon, following an incident, the RGH security staff attempted to restrain him (and) he became unresponsive.
“Medical staff performed lifesaving measures, but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced deceased.”
The release didn’t explain the nature of the “incident.”
The Coroners Act gives the chief coroner the power to order an inquest into the death of any person in the province.
The goal of the inquest is to establish who died, when and where they died, and the cause and manner of their death. The coroner’s jury then can make recommendations to prevent similar deaths from occurring.
