The NFL has seen an influx of new fans this season — and many of them are Swifties supporting the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, for those who are Swiftie and Chiefs fans, there’s new memorabilia to rock.
Saskatoon’s Mike Schmidt is making Taylor Swift-inspired Chiefs necklaces.
Schmidt said they have been flying off the shelf.
“They seem to be pretty popular,” said Schmidt. “There’s obviously the Taylor Swift dynamic with the Super Bowl this year.”
Schmidt has sold over two dozen necklaces, and over that time he has noticed that there are a lot of different types of people who are interested in buying the necklaces.
“There’s the people that are Taylor Swift fans,” said Schmidt. “The boyfriends or husbands are buying them to get them to watch the Super Bowl with them.”
But not everyone has taken kindly to this idea.
“I’ll get a lot of messages from guys that are straight profanity,” said Schmidt. “Some are just F-You, just messages that say, ‘This is why I hate Taylor Swift.’
“I think they are gatekeepers to their sport and they don’t want any new types of fans.”
Schmidt has been making 3D printed objects for around three years now as a hobby, and has been selling these necklaces for about a week.
The Chiefs are to face the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s NFL title game.
