First responders deal with partial collapse of building in Evergreen area

Some construction workers in Saskatoon had to be rescued Wednesday after the floor of a building under construction partially collapsed in the Evergreen neighbourhood.

According to Saskatoon police, the call came in at around 1:40 p.m., sending first responders to the construction site in the 100 block of Horner Crescent.

In a media release, the Saskatoon Fire Department said a floor of the building collapsed.

“On arrival, fire crews were advised that all construction personnel were accounted for but needing rescue from upper storeys,” the release said. “Initial information was that concrete slabs were being installed for flooring when it collapsed five storeys.”

The department said a firefighter paramedic was tied off and rescued a person from the roof of the building just after 2:30 p.m.

Police initially said three people had been hurt, but the severity of their injuries wasn’t released.

Traffic was restricted in the area during the operation.
