Moose Jaw’s Santa Claus Parade wasn’t an entirely joyful event.
In a media release Tuesday, Moose Jaw police said a 45-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his left leg after he was hit by a vehicle during the parade on Dec. 3.
According to the release, officers responded just before 6 p.m., to a call about a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the 100 block of High Street West during the event.
The officers were told the driver of the vehicle tried to turn east onto High Street West, which was closed in both directions for the parade.
“The victim, who was a parade volunteer and wearing a hi-vis jacket, attempted to stop the motorist from completing their turn and then was struck by the vehicle, running over their left leg,” the police said.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of what police called “extensive injuries” to his leg.
Police said the driver was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device, illegal left turn, driving without due care and attention, and failing to obey the direction of a flag person.
The investigation is continuing, and anyone with further information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or Moose Jaw police at 306-694-7600.
