What started as a routine welfare check turned into a homicide case for Mounties in Yorkton on Thursday.
According to the RCMP, officers were called to a home on Sixth Avenue North for the check, and found a dead man inside the home.
The death is considered a homicide, police said, and the investigation is now in the hands of RCMP Major Crimes.

“RCMP are also working to locate 61-year-old Donna Spilchen (Radom) to confirm her safety,” the RCMP added. “Donna is described as approximately 5’ and 120 pounds. She has black hair. We don’t have a photo available at this time.”
Police asked anyone with information on Spilchen’s whereabouts – and anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or captured surveillance footage in the area early Thursday morning – to get in touch with police or Crime Stoppers.
The RCMP said no additional details could be shared on Friday, but added that the public will be informed if an imminent safety risk is identified.
