No arrests have been made in connection with used needles deliberately left on playgrounds around Saskatoon, but there haven’t been any new incidents reported either.
Last month, Saskatoon police released video footage of a man suspected of leaving used needles on playgrounds in the city.
The footage showed a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt scattering items from a bag onto a playground at Ernest Lindner School. He could also be seen covering up an item he’d dropped.
Police said reports of used needles on playgrounds began in July and August, and encouraged parents, caregivers and educators to be observant around playgrounds.
No arrests have yet been made in the case, police said, but no additional incidents have been brought to the police service’s attention since the footage was shared with the public in October.
The suspect was described as a thin man in his late 30s or early 40s, with stubble on his face and a mole under his right eye. In the footage, the man was wearing a maroon backpack and dark clothing, and was carrying one or more walking sticks.
“We continue to ask for the public’s help in identifying the person of interest,” police said in a statement.
