The Western Development Museum has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland.
The Saskatoon Festival of Trees opens Friday, marking its 38th year in support of the City Hospital Foundation.
Operations manager Raylene Kershaw says the festival is a perfect way to kick off the holiday season.
“There is glitter, sparkle, red and green — all kinds of stuff everywhere,” Kershaw told the 650 CKOM Morning Show.
“We have over 90 displays this year – decorated trees, wreaths, centrepieces and gingerbread houses.”
The festival offers more than decorations.
Activities for children include daily story time, face painting, photos with Santa and character visits from the Grinch, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf.
Since becoming a non-profit in 2006, the festival has donated more than $1.7 million to hospital for the purchase new equipment.
Kershaw said proceeds from this year’s festival will help the hospital replace and upgrade vital anesthetic and monitoring equipment in the operating room.
The festival runs through until Dec. 2.
