A man from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation is facing a murder charge in connection with a death at Emma Lake.
According to the RCMP, 41-year-old Wesley Naytowhow has been charged with a single count of second-degree murder in connection with the August killing of Phillip Okemow.
Police said officers found the 27-year-old Okemow’s body at “an outdoor location” at Emma Lake’s MacIntosh Point on Aug. 21.
Okemow was also a resident of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, and police quickly announced that his death was being investigated as a homicide.
Naytowhow was arrested at a home on the Cree Nation on Wednesday, the RCMP said, and was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property and failing to appear in court.
He’s set to appear in a Prince Albert courtroom Friday.
