People in Saskatoon will be dishing out more money for garbage disposal next year.
The recommendation to charge a utility fee for garbage collection was passed by council on Wednesday.
Starting in January, Saskatoon residents will be able to choose between three sizes of black garbage bins.
The 360-litre large bins that residents currently use will cost $122.75 annually.
Medium-sized bins that hold up to 240 litres of waste will cost $101.12 annually, while small bins that can hold 120 to 135 liters will cost $80.76 per year.
Council recommended that the plan be approved, and that the proposed fees be included in the 2024/2025 preliminary budget plans and budget meetings
According to the city, the new garbage plan includes a flat fee for the first six months of next year, and a variable fee after that.
The flat fee of $9.92 will be charged to residents with curbside pickup until the cart swaps are completed.
The city said the proposed rates still need to be finalized by council in the budget deliberations later this year.
