RCMP officers are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly rammed a police car and tried to run down an officer while trying to get away from a traffic stop this week.
According to police, officers spotted a stolen vehicle parked outside a home in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Little Red River on Monday evening. The RCMP said a police vehicle pulled up behind, while an officer approached the suspect’s vehicle on foot.
“The vehicle reversed, ramming the police vehicle,” the RCMP said in a statement. “The vehicle then drove forward toward the officer who was on foot, who had to jump out of the way to safety. The vehicle then fled.”
Neither officer was hurt, police said, but the police vehicle was heavily damaged.
Police said 27-year-old Tyler Daniels, a resident of Little Red River, has been charged with two counts each of dangerous driving, fleeing police and assaulting a police officer with a weapon, along with one count each of possession of stolen property, mischief, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.
Daniels was described as 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has numerous tattoos, police said, including “Daniels” and “family” on his right forearm.
Anyone who sees him should not approach him, police said, and should report any sightings to police or Crime Stoppers.
