It doesn’t get much lower than stealing a wheelchair, unless it’s stealing five of them.
Five specialized wheelchairs and an assortment of sports equipment were stolen from a trailer belonging to the Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association this week.
According to the Regina Police Service, a staff member noticed the trailer door was open on Tuesday morning, and they quickly discovered five sport wheelchairs missing, along with 12 rugby balls, 12 basketballs, 12 hockey sticks and two bags.
“The value of these items is in the tens of thousands of dollars,” the police service noted. “They are extremely specialized pieces of equipment for athletes with disabilities.”
At the time of the break-in, the trailer was parked in a lot on Park Street, and police said the gear was taken sometime between Sunday and Tuesday.
Anyone with information that could help police track down the equipment or the perpetrators was asked to contact the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
