Sask. construction company to pay $70,000 after worker seriously hurt

A Saskatchewan construction company has been hit with heavy fines after pleading guilty to violating safety regulations in relation to a serious injury.

According to the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, KMS Construction Ltd. pleaded guilty to a single violation of Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations for failing to provide the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to protect the health and safety of workers.

The charge stemmed from an incident in June of 2021 when a worker near Gull Lake was left seriously hurt “after being ejected from a scraper buggy.”

After entering the guilty plea in a Swift Current courtroom late last month, the company was fined $50,000, along with a $20,000 surcharge.
