Families hoping to bring their little ones to paddling pools in Saskatoon this past weekend may have been out of luck.
Several paddling pools in the city were unexpectedly closed over the weekend, during a time when temperatures reached up to 29 C.
On Saturday four paddling pools were closed around the city, and one was closed Sunday.
In a statement, the City of Saskatoon said the paddling pool closures were due to staff shortages, but the city noted that it didn’t receive any complaints about the unforeseen closures.
The city is operating its Weekend Playground Programs out of 14 paddling pools this year.
As a part of the city’s Extreme Heat Emergency Response Plan, Saskatoon has extended the hours of splash pads around the city until 10 p.m each night.
