Rack Petroleum hosted an event on Tuesday at Ag in Motion, announcing a new research project to help make farming more sustainable.
“We’ve initiated a mass research project into the canola world, and what we did was challenge 93 farmers to use our new product,” said CEO Dennis Bulani.
“These farmers registered a field of canola they are going to grow, so on one side of the field they will grow canola with their common practice, and the other side of the field will be grown with all the new technology.”
Rack Petroleum has its own research division that researches seven to eight types of crops each year across the province. The research revealed a new blend made for 70-bushel canola, which Bulani said has been a success.
“We have been able to grow more bushels of canola on less water,” said Bulani.
Not only does Rack Petroleum have a new biological product, but the company is also in the process of testing an app that can help predict canola yields.
A farmer enters data into the app about how they plan to grow canola, and the app puts those numbers together to give the farmer an idea of how much yield they should expect.
“We are actually quite confident that this new algorithm will be a tool that farmers will use,” said Bulani.
The 93 farmers that Rack Petroleum challenged them to use are also using the new app.
Bulani said the company will have more information on this app later this summer.
