There are no sharks in Saskatchewan, but Friday night at Blackstrap, it may feel like there are.
Blackstrap Lake is hosting a “Jaws on the Water” movie night, where people can watch the classic horror movie from the sand or even from right in the water.
“It’s going to be great,” said Josh Turner of Little Kahuna’s Beach Café and Tiki Bar, which is hosting the movie night.
Turner said similar events have been popular all around North America.
“I’ve had the Tiki Bar for a few years and always wanted to have ‘Jaws’ going on and actually replicate that event,” said Turner.
The film will be projected on a 21-foot blow-up screen that will sit along the beach. Turner said people can sit on the beach, watch from an inflatable right in the water or anchor their boats to watch from the boating area.
Before the event, the beach will still be busy, with the Tiki Bar turning the movie night into a celebration.
“We’ve got some great festivities, some music, (and) samplings from LB (Lucky Bastard) Distillery going on throughout the day and throughout the night at the Tiki Bar itself,” said Turner.
The film is free to the public and will be held on Blackstrap Lake’s main beach, 35 minutes south of Saskatoon. The movie starts at 10 p.m.
“Jaws on the Water” night is a part of the Tiki Bar’s “Luau at the Lake” weekend. On Saturday, the festivities continue with live music, fireworks and a treasure hunt for the kids.
