After the cancellation of the summer food festival Taste of Saskatchewan earlier this year, local businesses and community members have come together to create a new event.
Maygen Kardash with YXE Street Eats said starting Tuesday, the food and wine festival will showcase local restaurants, wineries and distilleries, as well as live entertainment at River Landing.
Some local vendors include Orchid Garden, Moto Japanese Kitchen, Sweethoney Dessert and Spicy Time.
Kardash adds there will also be food-eating contests for pie, watermelon and hot wings.
After the cancellation of the Taste of Saskatchewan, she said some community members still saw a need for it.
“We want to keep people here in Saskatoon,” she said, adding the festival was put together in just three weeks.
It’s not a ticketed event. Instead, vendors serve their own food with their own prices.
“We considered some of the things that might have been holding Taste of Saskatchewan back from launching a festival again this year,” she said, adding she is hoping to continue the event into next year.
The festival runs from Tuesday through Sunday and has free admission.
