The Transportation Safety Board is investigating a train derailment west of Saskatoon.
According to CN Rail, 23 cars went off the rails at about 5 p.m. Sunday near the small community of Leney, about 70 kilometres west of Saskatoon.
TSB spokesperson Liam MacDonald said the cars involved were holding shipping containers, though he couldn’t say exactly what was on board.
“No reported dangerous goods were involved, no injuries were reported to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, and currently we’re gathering information,” MacDonald said.
He said a team of investigators is on the scene now, but the organization hasn’t yet determined if a full investigation is warranted.
“We’re assessing the situation,” MacDonald explained. “We’re doing what we need to do to see if we need to conduct a full investigation.”
In an emailed statement, CN confirmed there is no danger to the public as a result of the incident.
“There are no dangerous goods involved, no leaks, fires or injuries reported and no crossings blocked,” the statement read.
“CN thanks local emergency services for their assistance. The cause of the incident is under investigation.”
