Southern Saskatchewan could be in for a repeat of Thursday’s stormy weather.
Just after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings for areas around Estevan and Weyburn.
The weather service said the storms were “capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.”
The warning was preceded by severe thunderstorm watches for the southeast corner of the province. Areas around Estevan, Weyburn, Moosomin, Carlyle, Carnduff, Milestone, Grenfell and Kipling were included in the watches.
“Daytime heating will initiate thunderstorms across much of the southern prairies this afternoon,” Environment Canada said in the advisory. “Heavy rain is the main hazard of concern due to slow-moving thunderstorms with ample ambient moisture.”
More information is available on the Environment Canada alerts page.
Regina was among the areas pounded during the storms that hit the province on Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning, with roads closing and basements flooding.
There were two tornado warnings issued Thursday, but Environment Canada hasn’t said if twisters actually touched down.
