Mechanical failure behind garbage truck fire

A waste disposal truck had to cut its pick-up schedule short after it burst into flames Wednesday morning.

It happened on Chitek Crescent. Fire crews arrived shortly after 11:00 a.m. and quickly brought the fire under control.

An investigator determined the fire was caused due to a mechanical failure in the hydraulic area behind the cab.

Damage is estimated at $235,000.

The driver was able to safely evacuate without injuries.
